The Rutland North area is varied and comprised of flat land
in the north part of the city. At one time Rutland was its own municipality,
but has been amalgamated with Kelowna for the last 15 years. There are several
older and several newer areas in Rutland as the city has grown very
rapidly in the last 10 years. There are also several large hobby
orchards in amongst the subdivision.
The area east of Highway 97, south of Old Vernon Road and north of
Highway 33 and due east from junction of Springfield and Highway 33
(i.e. excluding Toovey subdivision)
Rutland is named for John Rutland who came to the Okanagan from Australia.
He is credited with bringing in the first irrigation system to the
district.
