Beverderdell Carmi is the area south and east of the Summit of Highway 33,
including Westbridge, Beaverdell, Carmi and the Christian Valley.
Beaverdell, with a population of about 350, is set in the mountains near a cluster of 16 small lakes that attract thousands of visitors annually. Located on Highway 33 north of Rock Creek, the Beaverdell business district includes the oldest continuously operating hotel in British Columbia, a general store, a curio shop, a fish and tackle shop, a trading post, a couple of gas stations and several restaurants that serve home-cooked meals. A first aid post and a First Responder unit help to take care of medical emergencies in the area.
Wildlife is abundant and the surrounding lakes are excellent for fishing and boating. Hiking trails to Clark Lake, State Lake, Lower Collier Lake and Goat Lookout, developed by the provincial government, can be accessed from Beaverdell. As well, it is a supply and stop-over point along the Kettle Valley Railway route.
Westbridge spans 70 kilometers north in the Christian Valley and south in Zamora or north-west in Rhone. Located at the junction of Highway #33 and the Christian Valley Road, the unincorporated community of Westbridge is minimalist: the Westbridge General Store and Post Office is the focal point of activity in the area. Old Westbridge was located where the now-abandoned elementary school stands. With the arrival of the famous Kettle Valley Railway, the old settlement passed. A hotel incorporating a store and post office was built on a site at the north end of the present bridge. For many years the CPR train was the principal link with the outside world. As passenger traffic on the railroad diminished and road traffic increased, the hotel was used less and the present day store was built at the junction of Highway 33 and the Christian Valley Road.
